Our Veterinarians
Dr. Brianna Gaines
Dr. Brianna Gaines was born and raised in Queens, New York. She studied veterinary medicine at St.George’s University, where she fell in love with the sun and the beach.
After finishing her clinical year at the University of Florida, she decided to officially leave the city for the sand. Dr. Gaines has spent the last four years loving the Florida sun with her husband, Aakif, and their cat, Zouk. Dr. Gaines has a passion for internal medicine and cats.
In her free time, Dr. Gaines loves reading, crocheting, and taking Zouk on walks. You can always find her with a book in her hand at the beach or curled up on the couch with Zouk crocheting a blanket.
Dr. Jay Katz
Dr. Jay Katz is the proud owner of Healthy Pets Veterinary Care – as well as an Old English Sheep Dog named Max. Dr. Katz excels at working with dogs and cats but loves seeing “pocket pets” and other exotics as well. He has a special interest in surgery, dermatology, pain management, and senior care.
Dr. Katz received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tufts in 2013. Prior to veterinary school, he studied Philosophy, Religion, and Art History at Boston University. After college, Dr. Katz’s near‐pathologic desire to pet every dog he saw drove him into veterinary medicine.
In his spare time, Dr. Katz enjoys traveling, yoga on the beach, basketball, soccer, scuba diving, enjoying the Florida sunshine, and no longer having New England winters in his life.
Dr. Nikki Mazzaschi
Dr. Nikki Mazzaschi grew up in Laconia, New Hampshire, and received her B.S. in biology and animal behavior at the University of New Hampshire. After graduation, she worked as a veterinary technician for a few years- where she discovered her passion for veterinary medicine. In 2014, Dr. Mazzaschi received her DVM from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Areas of professional interest include internal medicine, animal behavior, and all things feline.
Dr. Mazzaschi and Dr. Katz established Healthy Pets Veterinary Care with the fundamental goal not only to care for animals, but also the people that love them. Dr. Mazzaschi shares her home with Dr. Katz, their son David and their 2 cats, Yara and Randy.
Dr. Tanis Whyte
Dr. Tanis Whyte was born and raised in Iowa. She is a seasoned veterinarian with over 27 years of experience. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University and has an undergraduate degree in chemistry.
Throughout her career, Dr. Whyte has worked in various settings, including an oncology practice in Los Angeles and a specialty hospital in West Palm Beach, where she worked as an emergency and critical care clinician. She has worked in general practice for the last 15 years.
In addition to her clinical work Dr. Whyte volunteered for a rescue that specialized in taking pets that were too sick for adoption and would be euthanized and getting them healthy enough to find homes. She also volunteered at Gumbo Limbo, where she rehabilitated sick and injured sea turtles.
In her free time, she enjoys cycling and going to the beach. She is grateful for a career that allows her to to be able to work with animals during the day and come home to her family of pets.
